Princess for Hire by Lindsey Leavitt

Princess for Hire on Amazon

The Blurb

When Desi Bascomb gets discovered by the elite Façade Agency--royalty surrogates extraordinaire--her life goes from glamour-starved to spectacular in a blink. As her new agent Meredith explains, Desi has a rare magical ability: when she applies the ancient formula Royal Rouge, she can temporarily transform into the exact lookalike of any princess who needs her subbing services. Dream come true, right?

Well, Desi soon learns that subbing involves a lot more than wearing a tiara and waving at cameras. Like, what do you do when a bullying older sister puts you on a nasty crash diet? Or when a princess’s conflicted sweetheart shows up to break things off—and you know she would want you to change his mind?

In this hilarious series debut, one girl’s dream of glamour transforms into something bigger: the desire to make a positive impact. And an impact Desi makes, one royal fiasco at a time.

The Afterglow

The love I have for this book is UNDENIABLE. Lindsay Leavitt paints a perfect world that has you DYING to escape and become a princess. Of course, nothing would be a novel without a whole lot of drama, and Desi runs into her fair share of it.

This was a quirky, fun, read about a girl who struggles being a teenager. Every girl can relate to that feeling. She's unhappy about school, her job, and her friends. Falling across an add for a substitue princess sounds like a luxury almost every girl would be dying to take. She applies and lands the job... she learns several important lessons and realizes that even princesses have problems they'd like to escape.

After you read this you'll be googling for an application to be a substitue princess. The positive - You already know from Desi's experience that it won't be a walk in the park.

The GREAT news

Once reading this delicious tale you can purchase the second novel in the series, The Royal Treatment. This will set you up for the third in this trilogy, A Farewell to Charms.

Lindsey Leavitt has many more delicious tales that can be found on her website. You won't want to miss the magic.

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

This book was worth the time I stayed awake to read it. After all, we've all taken a day or two of being sleep deprived to finish a delectable tale. Beautiful Creatures was my latest 'eye opener'.

The Blurb:

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

The Afterglow:

I'll be honest, with Beautiful Creatures being made into a movie this February I was enticed. Just seeing a two minute preview had me wanting to dive into Beautiful Creatures just so I could know how it ended.

How did I feel?

Book One knocked me off my feet. The words read like a sweet melody. Lena and Ethan's relationship is so unique and unforgettable you'll be glad you're picking up the novel now when the other part of the series have previously been released as well.

I love that the authors chose to shy away from the term witch and create Castors, a term that allows them to truly branch out and add unique flavor to each individual who possess a power. So whether you want Lena to turn to the light or to the dark this is a tale you'll want to jump on the moment you have avaiable free time!!

Next on my agenda: Beautiful Darkness

DESTINED by Jessie Harrell

It's been a bit since I've stopped in and shared a book that's captivated me from beginning to end. I suppose it's because it's been awhile since I've been captivated. However, I just finished the novel that still has me romanced and I knew immediately it had to be shared!

Blurb:

When Psyche receives a prophecy gone horribly wrong, she learns that even the most beautiful girl in Greece can have a hideous future. Her fate? Fall in love with the one creature even the gods fear.

As she feels herself slipping closer into the arms of the prophecy, Psyche must choose between the terrifyingly tender touch she feels almost powerless to resist and the one constant she's come to expect out of life: you cannot escape what is destined.

Destined is a fresh and heartachingly romantic retelling of the Cupid & Psyche myth from debut novelist, Jessie Harrell.

The Afterglow:

Jessie Harrell's debut novel was FABULOUS. It won't matter if you know Greek Mythology or not this tale of romance will sweep you off your feet. The retelling of Cupid & Psyche is heartwarming and filled with the inability to put it down the minute you start it.

Psyche is far from ordinary, if a princess isn't enough from the get go she's visited by none other than Aphrodite herself. Given the opportunity to be the daughter of Aphrodite, a very special honor, Psyche isn't ready for all the fame that comes with it... or the rules. She breaks the only rule that Aphrodite had for her when Ero's, Aphrodite's son is the one Psyche must marry. Manners is the last thing he possesses leaving Psyche wanting to be alone rather than spending even a day with him. Of course, as all stories go, disaster strikes, Aphrodite ALWAYS gets what she wants, and the two who don't expect to fall in love do.

Harrell is a mastermind in this tale as you get to enjoy both Ero's and Pysche's points of view. With each passing chapter the romance is even more captivating leaving you to curl up on the couch until it's finished and even then you'll wish it were longer.

I cannot wait to see what Harrell writes next.

REMEMBER ME by Sophie Kinsella

The Blurb:

When twenty-eight-year-old Lexi Smart wakes up in a London hospital, she’s in for a big surprise. Her teeth are perfect. Her body is toned. Her handbag is Vuitton. Having survived a car accident—in a Mercedes no less—Lexi has lost a big chunk of her memory, three years to be exact, and she’s about to find out just how much things have changed.

Somehow Lexi went from a twenty-five-year-old working girl to a corporate big shot with a sleek new loft, a personal assistant, a carb-free diet, and a set of glamorous new friends. And who is this gorgeous husband—who also happens to be a multimillionaire? With her mind still stuck three years in reverse, Lexi greets this brave new world determined to be the person she…well, seems to be. That is, until an adorably disheveled architect drops the biggest bombshell of all.

Suddenly Lexi is scrambling to catch her balance. Her new life, it turns out, comes complete with secrets, schemes, and intrigue. How on earth did all this happen? Will she ever remember? And what will happen when she does?

The Afterglow:

This was the first book I read of Sophie Kinsella's and it will certainly NOT be the last. I loved Lexi, she was relateable in so many ways. With her recent loss of memory she sets out to live a life she isn't sure she was meant to live, peeling away the secrets one onion layer at a time.

The twists and turns will leave you wondering what Lexi will do next and how one copes with memory loss until you're able to finally call some place home. It really makes you appreciate the things you have and how lucky you are to have your memory in tact and your secrets safely hidden in a box next to the shoes in your closet.

It's a perfect beach read for this nice summer weather!

Shoe Addicts Anonymous by Beth Harbison

The Blurb

Four different women. One common shoe size. And a shared lust for fabulous footwear.
Helene Zaharis’s politician husband keeps her on a tight leash and cancels her credit cards as a way of controlling her. Lorna Rafferty is up to her eyeballs in debt and can’t stop her addiction to eBay. Sandra Vanderslice, battling agoraphobia, pays her shoe bills by working as a phone-sex operator. And Jocelyn Bowen is a nanny for the family from hell (who barely knows a sole from a heel but who will do anything to get out of the house.)
On Tuesday nights, these women meet to trade shoes and, in the process, form friendships that will help them each triumph over their problems—-from secret pasts to blackmail, bankruptcy, and dating. Funny, emotional, and powerful, Shoe Addicts Anonymous is a perfect read for any woman who has ever struggled to find the perfect fit.

The Afterglow

What started as a way to fix her debt Lorna Rafferty created a group titled Shoe Addicts Anonymous. I only wish this could have happened in real life. Harbison has a way of bringing four women with major issues and making you laugh out loud and long for their friendship. These women bond in such an amazing way it's hard to not want to be them. Watch out Carrie Bradshaw because these women have a shoe addiction bigger than even hers.

I loved this book. I couldn't get enough. If I wasn't on such a time frame for her next novel I'd read it again. I loved the relationship/friendship between them all. I loved the light hearted flirty read perfect for summer. Overall I just loved Beth Harbisons work. It'll make you want to grab your friends and go out for cocktails.

I'm still in awe having just finished it and hope at least one other person picks up this book and enjoys it as I have.

Goodnight Tweetheart by Teresa Medeiros

The Blurb (on goodreads):

Abigail Donovan has a lot of stuff she should be doing. Namely writing her next novel. A bestselling author who is still recovering from a near Pulitzer Prize win and the heady success that follows Oprah’s stamp of approval, she is stuck at Chapter Five and losing confidence daily. But when her publicist signs her up for a Twitter account, she’s intrigued. What’s all the fuss?

Taken under the wing of one of her Twitter followers, “MarkBaynard"—a quick witted, quick-typing professor on sabbatical—Abby finds it easy to put words out into the world 140 characters at a time. And once she gets a handle on tweets, retweets, direct messages, hashtags, and trends, she starts to feel unblocked in writing and in life. After all, why should she be spending hours in her apartment staring at her TweetDeck and fretting about her stalled career when Mark is out there traveling the world and living?
Or is he?

Told almost entirely in tweets and DMs, Goodnight Tweetheart is a truly modern take on a classic tale of love and loss—a Griffin and Sabine for the Twitter generation.

The Afterglow:

Teresa Medeiros swept me off my feet, tweet style. For those who don't understand twitter or use it religiously this book is the perfect blend of comedy and romance. Her gift of communication through 140 characters will leave you wild-eyed and thirsty for more!
Abby Donovan was a New York Times Bestseller and now known as the New York Times Best Blocker when a bad case of Writer's block keeps her from writing anymore novels. From the get go you're left feeling sorry for Abby but wanting nothing more than for her to exceed. When her agent sets her up with a brand new twitter account she's left to her devices in hopes to make new friendships and hopefully the long lasting kind.

This is where she meets Mark Baynard and the friendship between the two blossom. For nightly tweets and the occasional tweetdate they fall into a whirlwind romance neither of them expect. When truths are revealed about Mark, Abby realizes she'd do anything to be by his side and the detective work goes until the last page.

This novel was both hilarious and heart warming. With their nightly good-bye's Medeiros will keep you chuckling. My personal favorite portion of the novel are when they say goodnight to one another. She's set a new and lovable ending to say goodnight. She is extremely witty in the 140 characters or less and I was impressed with each passing page that she could keep it all together.

A light and fun read and the ending will melt your heart!
