My rating: 5/5
Summary from Goodreads:
The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.
But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming...
This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.
It wants the truth.
Afterglow:
Not since Walk Two Moons or The Tale of Despereaux has a MG book so healed me.
Interspersed with illustrations and unique patterns, A Monster Calls will pull tears from you throughout the book until the very end, when a cathartic downpour issues forth.
This is a book to make you brave.
To make you tell the truth.
And to make you know it's okay.
Thanks for telling us about it- it looks interesting and my MG daughter will probably enjoy it greatly. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Summer! I should mention that it deals with heavy themes like death and nightmares.
DeleteI've heard of this. Thanks for sharing about it. I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI loved this book -- it's so scary and nightmarish but so TRUE.
ReplyDeleteI read it before reading Ness's CHAOS WALKING trilogy, and that is a stunning, brutal, unforgettable trilogy too for teens and adults.
Wow! I've never heard of this book. It sounds amazing. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis book is a devastating, very difficult read if you've ever lost a loved one, especially a parent. And yet, it's a glorious, hopeful story, and worth every single tear.
