ACROSS THE UNIVERSE by Beth Revis

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to wake on a new planet, three hundred years in the future.

Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into a brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone--one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship--tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now, Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

The Afterglow

OH. MY. GOODNESS.

Y'all, it took me entirely too long to pick this one up. I had a baby, and then I kinda forgot about all these awesome books I meant to read.

I finished ATU in a couple days. If life hadn't gotten in the way, I would have finished it in a few hours.

IT IS THAT GOOD.

The characters are just so tangible. There wasn't a character Revis didn't flesh out or that felt flat to me. And the tension! Trying to close this book was so hard, it might as well have been superglued to my hands.

If you haven't read it, I recommend you do so immediately. Love, love, love.

  1. I loved this book, too! It totally surprised me about half-way through because it felt like a totally different book once I got into it, but I think that's due to the traumatic change of scenery for Amy and the switch between two perspectives. Beth made that setting just hit you with claustrophobia. I still feel a little sick just thinking about the way Elder and his people lived their whole lives. Great book! Thanks for the review, Anne!

  2. This novel is a beautiful balance of mystery, romance, sci-fi and adventure. I especially loved the one tragically gifted character who must not be named.
